２６日付の米有力紙ワシントン・ポストは社説で、沖縄県・尖閣諸島をめぐる日本と中国の対立を取り上げ、米国が軍事衝突に巻き込まれる可能性を指摘、２月の安倍晋三首相の訪米を念頭に、オバマ政権の支援で「尖閣問題を棚上げ状態に戻す」ことが望ましいと訴えた。
